Summary:
The Sr. Specialist, Electrical Engineer – FPGA Design will join the FPGA Design team and participate in the New Product Introduction (NPI) design process, developing digital solutions primarily using FPGA technology.

The engineer will be involved throughout the FPGA development lifecycle, including requirements definition, VHDL design, simulation, synthesis, implementation, timing closure, hardware verification, debugging, documentation, design reviews, product sustaining, and new product launches.

The role works closely with the Verification team and other engineering departments to deliver robust, reliable, and easily integrated FPGA designs while following standardized engineering processes and coding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
- Create FPGA designs using VHDL.
- Simulate FPGA designs using Questa Sim.
- Utilize Xilinx design tools for synthesis, implementation, debugging, and timing closure.
- Integrate library modules into larger FPGA designs.
- Verify, test, and debug designs in hardware.
- Assist the Verification team as required.
- Participate in regular FPGA design reviews.
- Present FPGA status updates during NPI project meetings.
- Support product sustaining activities.
- Generate high-quality technical documentation.
- Follow departmental engineering practices, workflows, and coding guidelines.
- Provide technical input and support to teams outside the FPGA organization.
- Share lessons learned and contribute to team knowledge.
- Participate in company educational events and technical training.
- Contribute ideas and participate in continuous improvement and innovation initiatives.
- Participate in requirements definition and design engineering activities.
- Support development of new design concepts and product launches.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure FPGA designs integrate effectively at the system level.
- Track and report design progress to support project and resource planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager.

Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or equivalent, plus 6+ years of relevant experience, OR Graduate Degree plus 4+ years of relevant experience, OR
- 10+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Must meet the requirements of the Canadian Controlled Goods Registration Program.
- Must be eligible for a Canadian government security clearance.
- Strong experience with digital design techniques and FPGA technology.
- Experience with VHDL.
- Experience with Questa Sim or equivalent FPGA simulation tools.
- Experience with Xilinx design tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively across Design, Verification, and other engineering teams.
- Strong documentation and technical communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to follow structured engineering workflows and coding practices.

Desired Skills & Capabilities:
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) techniques.
- Experience with Digital or Analog Video.
- Experience using MATLAB for algorithm development.
- Experience with DO-254 or other standardized safety-critical development processes.
- Experience with reusable FPGA IP development.
- Experience participating in NPI and product launch activities

Compensation: $110,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
